Goodwill Ambassadors are distinguished personalities who offer their reputation and charisma in the service of UNESCO's ideals. These persons give particular resonance to the work and mission of UNESCO in its four fields of competence:education, culture, science and communication/information
Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg has been a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador since 1997 and is particularly interested in projects and programmes promoting the education of girls and women around the world, as well as protecting children’s rights. Convinced of the importance of microcredits and a good education, HRH the Grand Duchess supports efforts aiming to give women the means to be autonomous and to defend their rights. HRH has visited many UNESCO project sites in Bangladesh, Nepal, Mali, Thailand, Laos and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
